My friends Raya Bodnarchuk, Yazi Azel and I visited Hillwood Museum and Gardens on Saturday to see the paper dress exhibition by the artist Isabelle de Borchgrave. Over 25 works inspired by historic costumes and dresses are on display through the end of December, 2012. Trims, ribbons, buttons and even the lace on each outfit are all fashioned from various papers, painted in a trompe-l’oeil fashion to imitate the textiles of the period. Additionally, a tour of the mansion and gardens was in order. We managed to enjoy the grounds just before a major rainstorm hit that once again knocked out electrical power for a large portion of the Washington, DC area.
