ZigZag Pop-ups in The Plains, Virginia

Saturday’s pop-up workshop sponsored by the Zig Zag Gallery in The Plains, Virginia, was full of surprises. It was held in the historic old town train station (now a collection of artist’s studios),  and I worked with six students ranging from a 2nd-grader to an elementary school teacher to a soccer mom who missed seeing her daughter’s first soccer goal because she was at the workshop instead. Every so often, the sound of a passing train interrupted the conversation, adding a nostalgic note to the day’s conversations and creations. The class was organized to coordinate with the gallery’s show of artist-made books and origami sculptures.
