On the Road in Oklahoma City at Untitled [Artspace]

I’ve just returned from a teaching trip to Oklahoma City, and found it to be a thriving urban area with a bustling downtown and a hip arts scene. My two-day class in paper engineering (making pop-ups) was sponsored by Untitled [Artspace], an arts non-profit which shows nationally- and internationally-known contemporary artists in a beautiful, raw big-space gallery. Fourteen class participants devoted their weekend to learning a series of pop-up formats, then went on to create their own structural shapes and scenes. Here are a few of the students at work.

Another highlight of the trip was a visit to Pops gas station and soda pop stand. The giant lighted soda bottle out front is a clue to the attraction here. Serving 1400 different kinds of soda pop along with traditional diner fare, Pops is a modern Route 66 icon. Don’t miss it!
